The Range Management Society of India
The Range Management Society of India (RMSI) was founded and formally inaugurated
on
13th December, 1978 at Jhansi during a national seminar on
“Management of Forests and Pastures”. The Society was established with
the objective of fostering and promoting the cause of rangelands in India.
Bye-Laws and Rules
Name
The Society shall be called
“The Range Management Society of India”.
Objectives
The objective of the Society is to promote the cause of rangelands in India through
national committees and commissions constituted from time to time.
The Society shall attempt to achieve its objectives by:
- Publishing the Indian Journal of Range Management, presently revised as
Range Management and Agroforestry, proceedings, and other relevant publications.
- Organizing meetings, excursions, symposia, and seminars at the national level.
- Organizing training courses related to rangelands.
- Securing and managing funds and endowments for the promotion of rangelands in the country.
- Undertaking all other activities necessary for the fulfillment of the Society’s objectives.
Membership
- Persons of all nations interested in the study of rangelands are eligible for membership.
- Members shall be admitted after nomination by two ordinary members and election by the Executive Council
or by a majority vote at a General Meeting.
- Membership shall become effective only after receipt of the admission fee and first annual subscription.
- Eligibility shall be open to forage workers, users, researchers, and other stakeholders.
- Membership shall be one-time.
- Membership shall be mandatory for all authors publishing research papers in the journal.
Privileges
The members shall be entitled to the following rights and privileges:
- To attend and vote at all General Meetings.
- To propose and recommend new members.
- To introduce visitors at General Meetings.
- To receive complimentary copies of the Society’s journal.
- To hold office in the Society upon being duly elected.
- To present papers and communications at meetings or publish them in the journal.
- To become a Life Member upon payment of twelve years’ subscription within two calendar years.
- Members with ten years of standing shall be recognized as Fellows and may use the abbreviation “FIRM”.
Withdrawal from Membership
A member may withdraw from the Society by submitting a written request to the Secretary.
Any subscription already paid shall not be refundable.
Subscription
- Admission Fee: Rs. 10 (India), USD 3 (USA), or 30 British Shillings.
- Annual Subscription:
- Individual: Rs. 500 (India), USD 100 (Foreign)
- Student: Rs. 200 (India)
- Library & Institutions: Rs. 2000 (India), USD 350 (Foreign)
- Life Membership: Rs. 5000 (India), USD 1000 (Foreign)
- Corporate Life Membership: Rs. 15000
Administration
The headquarters of the Society shall be located in India. The administration shall
be conducted by an Executive Committee and an Editorial Board. All administrative
members shall hold office for a period of three years.

Financial Assistance
Financial assistance for attending seminars or symposia shall be provided only to members
with a minimum of five years’ membership and shall be granted once in a lifetime.
Election of Office Bearers
Only life members in good standing shall have voting rights. Elections shall be conducted
through secret ballot following procedures laid down by the Executive Committee.
Amendments to the Rules
These rules may be amended at any General Meeting by a three-fourths majority of the members
present, provided that the proposed amendments are circulated at least one month in advance.
